Photography: urban exploration & post processing

12.6.11 - 17:16
This week the weather has been really changeable. Sunny one minute, raining the next, not great for taking photos. So I ended up bypassing my Saturday morning lie in to take some pictures before the rain started. For a while now I've been planning to investigate a row of houses which have had some of their walls removed leaving them with an odd inside/outside effect. Some demolition work was done after a there was a fire a few weeks ago but I think the houses might have been empty before that.

I've also been playing more with Pinik, the online photo editing software. One of my current favourite features is the 'cross process filter'. It's a bit like the ones you get on those iphone apps which take 'vintage' photos.

Here are a few of the pictures I took and processed. There are more natural looking ones on my flickr if you'd like to see the originals.

Do you think it's cheating to use these kind of filters? I really like the effects but part of me feels you should have to use the appropriate film camera to get them.

  1. I think using those pre-made filters are a bit of a cheat... Often, they are used without real understanding of how the real lense would achieve that effect.

I tend to tweak my pics with photoshop instead, hihi!

Loving your pictures nonetheless, especially the one before last

  2. Thanks. I felt a bit cheated when everyone got the 'hipstamatic' app and I was using a real film camera!
But then I realised I could do the same with photoshop if I wanted.

    All good fun though :)

  3. The only time I think it feels like cheating to me is when they over use it. When a normal not especially worthwhile picture, meaning there was no thought behind it then yeah it's not the same. But when it's applied to a picture to enhance that "it" factor I don't really begrudge the person. They may not have access to those products.

  4. ah niec photos, and i think its more fun ot play with flirts in real life than on the pc, but i guess it can be expensive and alot harder XD

  5. very cool photos, i like the urban style, i think you can send these too some journal for posting, and also what app do you use in editing after you shoot?i heard that https://macphun.com/fxphotostudio is one of the best for it, my friend is using it and the photos are also nice!
